Salicylic acid is an aromatic phenolic derivative. It plays an
important role in various physiological processes in plants, such as
thermogenesis, ethylene synthesis and fruit ripening.[2]
Application
Salicylic acid may be used for the quantitative estimation of
nitrate in plant materials by colorimetric method.[1] It
may be used in the synthesis of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (gentistic acid).[3]
